The backdrop

Tackling bullying in elementary, middle, and high schools.

Bullying has long been a threat in the United States, with students in elementary, middle, and high schools the most vulnerable — studies show one in five students admits to bullying classmates.

Our client needed anti-bullying software for K-12 students to enlighten school counselors, who in turn monitor and resolve cases. The software manages multiple affiliates and is usable by teachers, parents, and counselors alike.

How it works

A bullying-prevention solution in three tiers.

We developed a multi-tier solution enabling any victim, witness, or other party to report an incident and have a counselor assigned to it.

Reporting, case management, and resolution are split across three roles — reporters, principals, and counselors — so the right people act at the right stage.

The solution

Reporters, principals, and counselors — one workflow.

Tier 1 (Reporting): students, parents, and teachers report any case with a unique tracking number, entering parameters like location, behavior type, and gender, and can stay anonymous if they wish.

Tier 2 (Principals): admins consolidate multiple reports into a holistic case, assign one or more counselors, re-open or merge reports, and manage student data. Tier 3 (Counselors): assigned counselors are notified, study and edit reports, apply labels, choose corrective steps, add notes, and reassign as needed.

Interventions & positive action plans

A featured deliverable

When a counselor marks a case as moderate bullying, the software proposes suggestive interventions; once added, counselors justify the steps with notes. Victimized students submit a positive future action plan, with thumbnail document viewing and versioning so new uploads appear alongside the original case.

Challenges

Graphical analytics and careful case handling.

The assembled data had to be presented graphically against the prior year, with intervention logic, document versioning, and flexible filtering.

  • Year-over-year dashboard analytics
  • Suggested interventions for moderate cases
  • Action-plan uploads with thumbnail viewing
  • Versioned documents kept with the master case
  • Column-header filtering of reports
  • Multi-counselor assignment & merging
